Pros: base dialing, caller id, answering system, good features
Cons: Ni-cad cell, base unit has no battery backup or Caller ID display, bulky phone unit
The Bottom Line: This is one of the top of the line KX-TC series phones by Panasonic. If you do not mind a (comparatively) bulky handset, this unit is a very good buy

| sailesh's Full Review: Panasonic KX TC1870 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
This phone was top of the line in Panasonic's earlier generation of 900MHz telephones. This phone has all the features that one would want of a home phone.
BASE UNIT: The base unit has a keypad and controls for answering machine. Also included are a speaker phone and controls for paging/intercom with the wireless handset. The base unit does not have any battery backup, so if there is a powercut, you may have to reprogram everything again. But then, not many makers backup the base unit, especially in US, where power cuts are (were?) rare. The base unit is powered by a external step-down adapter. A small antenna extends the range of the base unit.
HANDSET: The handset is not as good as the latest handsets from panasonic, that are real small and cute, but Panasonic handsets have always been sleeker, better looking and better performing then their competitors. This handset has everything you could ask for. The back of the handset has a caller ID display with various controls. The caller ID display and controls are on the back so that they are visible when the phone is cradled on the base unit. Unfortunately, this handset can go into the baseunit only one way, i.e., key-pad side down. the key-pad is backlit for easy operation when it is dark. The range, under ideal conditions, is good enough even for large homes and when outdoors, the range can extent upto a few hundred yards without any problem. The handset has a standard headset jack and a beltclip so that you can speak for extended periods of time using a compatible headset. My wife likes this feature a lot and so does my long distance provider. the handset is also very rugged, and has taken quite a beating in the two years that we were using it.
Answering System: The answering system is the standard panasonic type ... 15 minutes of all digital recording, toll saver feature, date/time stamp, remote operation and can be customised in a variety of ways. There is no mailbox feature, however.
