Pros:Phase coating at this price point
Very bright image
Cons:Very noticeable chromatic aberration
Image is a little fuzzy toward edges
The Bottom Line: Not dissatisfied with them, but not sure if they were worth $300. A friend of mine has a $175 pair of Celestrons and they look every bit as good.
I paid about $300 for these binoculars ($400 - $100 rebate from Pentax). At this price, I think they're OK. I bought these via the internet from Etronics, so I didn't have a chance to view them beforehand. I selected them primarily because of Pentax's reputation and reviews by others that I had seen on the internet, and because of the $100 rebate from Pentax. I'm not dissatisfied with them, but I have to wonder if there are other units out there at the same price point that may be better. I think next time, I'll try to view units at some of the camera or sports stores around here before buying.

As I stated, the image is very bright, but is noticeably sharper in the center than around the edges. Other units I have seen in the past also have this problem (though they were not as expensive as this one). I believe Nikon says some of they're models are sharp from edge to edge, but they also cost quite a bit more. Another problem this unit has is very noticeable chromatic aberration. I can see the purple and green fringes as I move the binocular around slightly while viewing images, especially in bright sunlight.
The waterproof feature is nice to have, as I take these binoculars to football games. They are relatively heavy to carry around, though.
One other problem I'm having is with the rebate. Pentax is very slow in getting the rebate to me. It's been 12 weeks since I sent it in, and 10 since they entered it into their PC. I keep calling them and they keep telling me that it takes 6-8 weeks to process and can't or won't explain why it's taken 12 weeks so far and won't be mailed for at least another 2 weeks. Very frustrating. If you're thinking about buying anything from Pentax because of a rebate offer from them, look elsewhere or be prepared for a long wait.
