MY DECISION TO PURCHASE THIS CAMERA
I purchased this camera after experimenting with several different brands in a popular discount store. Prior to this camera, I had a Ricoh RZ-1000 35-mm camera and absolutely loved it but I must say I was hard on it. I dropped it one too many times.
Due to my disappointment for the loss of my "old" camera, I was looking for something new and I decided to try an APS rather than a 35-mm camera. I did just that. I looked at other Kodak models as well as other manufacturer brands and the Kodak Advantix C800 Zoom won my favor.
WHY DID IT WIN MY FAVOR?
-Instant Initial Set-up: It comes ready to use. All you need to do is put the batteries that are included in the camera. Then drop the film in the film compartment.
-Easy Programming: Below the LCD panel in the back of a camera is a covered control panel which contains all of the navigation keys you need to set the language and the date and time. To navigate the information, you use the zoom button. (The instruction manual provides very clear instructions to follow should you need to use it.)
-Easy Picture Taking: First you need to flip the lens cover to the upright position. This action turns the camera on. Next, you need to choose your print size format [Choose from: Classic (3 x 5"), Group/HDTV (4 x 7") and Panoramic (4 x 11.5")]. You choose the print size format by pressing the format selector button above the viewfinder. Next you focus on your subject and adjust the zoom to your liking and press the shutter button. You've taken your first picture!
-Available Flash Modes: When you first use the camera, basically auto-flash is what you get, but you can choose from others such as red-eye reduction, auto-flash without red-eye reduction, fill flash, and flash-off. To select any of these modes, simply press the key that resembles a lighting bolt beside the LCD panel (top button).
-Other Optional Modes: Options such as infinity focus,portrait mode, night-view, continuous drive, and spot focus are available. Select by pressing the "M" key below the lightning bolt button. The LCD will change to indicate the selected mode.
There are other options available such as a self-timer, adding titles, and selecting print quantity. I recommend using the well-written manual to explore the other features.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
About the only downfall to this great camera is that there is a delay between pressing the shutter button and when the camera takes the pictures. I have missed a few great photo opportunities and have had to predict some moments just so I wouldn't miss the picture.
THE END RESULT
I do love this camera because it takes great pictures and does not have a fussy zoom. When you receive your first APS prints, you will not believe the difference from what you may be used to if you are not an APS user.
I love the fact that you no longer must deal with negatives to get reprints of great pictures. With all APS film development, an index page with thumb-nail pictures accompanies your photos. Simply keep your returned roll and your index page and you can get great reprints.
With all that has been said, I must say that I made the right choice!
