Details, details (Reply to this comment)
by dncswknivs
It really is the details that matter, isn't it. So often a camera looks good, and is disappointingly lacking. But I agree, ever since my friend (and e-pinions compatriot) bought it, I've wanted one. It's just that it's quite an expensive piece of electronics...maybe some day...

great review (Reply to this comment)

as you pointed out , the 990 allows direct transfers from camera to pc via USB; the 950 and 800 didn't have this option.

Detailed and informative! (Reply to this comment)

Structured and very easy to follow...I'm sure more so than my review!
You wrote about difficulty with card reading...I'd recommend all CP990 users to transfer images via a Lexar Jumpshot reader. It's faster, more stable than via direct from camera.
You also wrote about "moire distortion." Did you mean what's termed as "barrel" distortion? I've understood this refers to straight lines curved by optics at short focal lengths.
I've understood moiré differently as an interference pattern created by two intersecting dot screens or raster grids. This is often seen when a printed halftone photo is scanned. Pixels are re-pixelated, creating alternating bands of high and low density.

Great review on a great camera!
I have looked at this one and it does look nice, though I love the Nikon D1 the best.
Great job as always,

Howard,
This is the camera I mentioned when my wife was considering buying a camera for her department needs. Like many wives, she won't believe her husband but the word of her sister's friend's cousin who knows a guy at a store that also sells cameras...
I guess the fact that I have a closet full of camera gear, years of experience and thousands of slides doesn't mean much. Sigh.
So I'm showing this review to her. I'll just say you're a friend's cousin who knows a guy...
Anyone doing a digital camera review should use this one as a template. You do good stuff.

Nikon vs. Canon (Reply to this comment)
by viper1963
My Nikon and Canon rep are fighting over space while I am sitting back watching the feud.
Howard, I am in the process of buying a Canon D30 digital camera. Darn thing is nearly impossible to buy!
Great review . . .
