Re: Not like the D1 (Reply to this comment)

When I was researching the 950 I was told by a salesperson that it did have two interchangable lenses, a wide angle and a telephoto. I am a Realtor who needs the convenience of a digital but also would like a camera that will take great indoor shots (including people). I have used my partner's Mavica FD88, which she paid $900.00 when it first came out and am not impressed at all although it does take decent exterior photos. So, was I mistaken about the interchangable lenses?

I greatly appreciate any comments from a professional in the field. Bouffard was to the point with some valued tecky info conveyed in language simplistic enough for the layperson to grasp.

I completely agree - the D1 and coolpix are not alike. What I'm saying is for the difference in price, the 990 is a great option, with fantastic quality. I use my D1 about 75% of the time and my coolpix the remaining 25%. I enjoy the ease of use of the coolpix. Having an F5 and a D1, I'm very familiar with the functions of both cameras. The D1 is for the professional and someone willing to put out $4,000+.

Not like the D1 (Reply to this comment)

I have both the D1 and the 990, and I disagree that the 990 is at all like the D1. For one thing, the D1 allows you to switch lenses, it is an SLR camera and behaves as such. The 990 is like a fancy point and shoot camera that gives you a ton of manual features, but you can't swap lenses, do extreme wide angle shorts, etc., much like the D1. Nonetheless, both cameras give excellent picture quality--it just depends on whether you need the flexibility of the D1 or not.
