Gorgeous panorama shots in Acadia Park, Maine, made this camera really worth getting. I bought mine at an auction site, new, for much less than the listed price. It is a very high quality camera and all shots in all functions come out really well.
First, let me describe some of the shots that were possible with this camera that I have not been able to get with other cameras I have owned.
It is switchable to panoramic format mid-roll, and then you can switch it back. This meant that in the middle of my hike to the top of a very steep hill, I could take panoramic shots of the great view, as well as regular shots of the hiking group. I went to a wetland preserve on Cape Cod, and using the TV function which eliminates glare from glass, was able to take excellent shots of the birds through the plate glass enclosed viewing area, without any glare at all. Using the sequential action shots, my friend was able to catch his adorable parakeets in mid-flight, with all their wing feathers spread out, just like in nature books. All of the other special functions worked just as described.
A big problem with this camera is that people with less than excellent eyesight can't use it. The functions are displayed on a tiny little LCD screen that is not lit, which means that in dim conditions it can be hard to tell what setting you are on, and the buttons to change most of the functions are very small, which means that is you have thick fingers, you will end up pushing things you didn't mean to. This can make it too frustrating. Also, this camera is not very sleek, which I guess is because of all the electronics in it, and rather heavy compared to some of the newer cameras on the market. However, in comparison, a manual camera with the attachments to take similar quality photos are huge, and not easy to maneuver during a hiking trip.
I chose this camera for its many advanced functions, and they deliver on these well enough that I forgive them for their small buttons. This camera is the most versatile one of its kind that I have used. I wish though that they would change the function setting buttons for the larger and easier-to-handle disc that some of the Fuji models have on top of the camera, rather than on the back.
