cpaaa3's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S50 Digital Camera
I am not an electronic junkie as a lot of you out there. However, I do like convenience and products that are easy to use. I had been hearing about digital cameras for a while and had begun to catch the digital bug. So, recently we began the hunt for a digital camera. Our goal was to get a crisp 4X6 picture as well as decent larger sizes of pictures.
Recently we purchased the Sony TRV-11 and were impressed with the clear, quality picture that it produced. It was lightweight, versatile and easy to handle but best of all real easy to learn. We wanted the same versatility and that would work as a great compliment to our camcorder.
That began to limit our scope to a camera that used the same technology. So we decided on the Sony DSC-S50. It also uses the same handy memory stick and regular life battery. We went with this model because it gave us more options for the price. With a 2.1 mega pixels it delivers with clear 4X6 photos, which we were looking for, yet also affords us the capability to produce larger pictures with clearer quality than the other DSC models with lower pixel ratings.
So Here's the Lowdown:
· Easy to learn and use. The features are clearly labeled, easy to find and the instructions are easy to follow.
· Crisp photos. When coupled with a good printer, this camera produces a 4X6 - 5X7 that compares to standard photos.
· Durable. Parts on the camera are made of good quality with no protruding parts that stick out to get caught on anything. There is nothing that is cheap or flimsy on this camera.
· Portability. With all the features that this camera affords it still is contained in a pretty compact package.
· Compatibility. We were unable to use the USB adapter with our camera so we loaded the memory stick into our camcorder and then were able to download what we needed without any difficulty.
· Feature to Price ratio. For the price we were able to get what we wanted without having to pay an exorbitant amount.
· LCD screen is compact enough but allows a clear view of what is ,I.being taken.
One of the drawbacks is the distortion of the digital zoom. Like most digital cameras, using the digital zoom distorts the quality of the picture. This camera works best when it is not zoomed in, however, even though you may use this feature it still provides a decent photo.
Being unable to look through a viewfinder does take some getting use to, but once you do, the adjustment is natural.
I have been able to use this camera a lot since we purchased it and it provides the instant feedback of the pictures that I took. If I am not satisfied with the shot I can just delete it freeing up more space on the memory stick for more pictures. The kids love to look at the play back feature, which is highly entertaining for them. It's easy to just slip in my purse and then it is ready when I need it. I don't have to wait for pictures to be developed anymore. I love it!
The other feature that this camera affords, that just captured my attention, was the ability to capture an mpeg movie. With this feature I can capture the kids in an amusing moment and then I have the ability to attach it to an email and share it with family and friends.
If you're looking for versatile and easy-to-use camera loaded with a lot of useable features I would recommend the Sony DSC-S50. It is a good representative of Sony quality that the name invokes.
