Howard,

As a WW II history buff, I appreciated the history of this lens and the series of developments that lead to its current version. Of special note were your valuable comments about Nikon's competition during this same time period.

Your comments about lens clarity and bokeh make this review especially helpful. Then again Howard, all of your reviews are of such consistently high quality, if someone asked me to choose which one was the best, I'd be unable to do so.

Like so many other readers here, I am in awe that you have been able to work with the finest products in the Nikon line. I am awestruck and not a little bit jealous. Then again, you are a valuable resource to those of us who will not be able to "test" the way you do.

Again, many thanks for your consistently outstanding reviews here at epinions.com.

The best camera I ever owned was a Nikon. It had a kind of magic that made the photograph more beautiful than the object itself.

Mental pictures:
I particularly enjoyed: "wonderful bokeh"?
and "foot zoom!"

As a devout Canon photographer, I must say I am truly impressed with the Nikon D1x and the F4S.

I have to ask my Nikon technical reps to let me borrow this lens!

Every time I remark that this camera/lens combo is one my father's treasures, I get blank stares...
I find it is as good as Cannon L series, if not better. You must be truly impressed with this Nikkor! I just hope it's not the Pentacon's faulty shutters what made the difference. Have to adjust them quite often.

By the way, ever noticed how similar a feel the old Contax and Nikon have? Heck, maybe it's just me.
Best regards,
