Cons: Mic pickup; still photo resolution not as good as the PC100; standard battery life.
The Bottom Line: A great camera. Very happy with my decision to go with Canon.

Great video camera. I am between a beginner and intermediate and this purchase was based on magazine reviews and a friend who already owned this camera.
Picture quality is fabulous particularly in its ability to adjust to light conditions. 35 mm photos that do not turn out due to lighting conditions look fine on the Elura. Stabilization is excellant.
I just installed a firewire board on my computer and what a neat gadget.
My wife and I picked this camera over the competition (Sony and JVC) primarily due to ergonomics and the Optical stabilization. To hold and operate the Elura is much more comfortable than the others.
We have not played with the special effects but plan on playing with it more. We took this camera on our last vacation and it never felt like I was lugging around a large object. It really enhanced the experience and makes the memories more real.
I do want to try adding an external microphone to improve soundtracks.
