Digital camcorders have been around for a couple of years, and with each new model released, it seems more extras and goodies are added. The same holds true for the new Sharp Digital Viewcam model VL-FD1U as well. It has everything from enhanced picture quality to capturing still pictures from a movie.
In order to reduce the amount of casing needed to protect this 1.2-pound camcorder, Sharp has included a rotating view screen and a cap to cover the lens, so as to protect all the delicate parts of the camcorder. One of the biggest advancements is that the LCD screen allows people to use a stylus pen to write, doodle and use a variety of different shapes and add titles to the movies. This great capability allows the movie to be labeled and makes it easier to understand when presented to a group of people.
It also has a built in thumbnail indexing feature that allows the user to break the movie down into snapshot images so as to allow users to instantly go to specific segments of the movie without having to wait for the whole movie to play.
This camcorder also allows people to connect it to the computer and then upload still images or the whole video to their computer where they can edit it or out it on a web page or something. The LCD screen also has 1% light reflectivity, which allows improved picture quality because it reduces the glare. In addition, the camcorder has a new 380,000 pixel progressive scan CCD (which is actually the lens). This allows for better capture quality of the video.
All in all this is one great product. However, the problem exists that the price to purchase this is roughly 1600 dollars, which is very expensive for most people, however, given all these features, the price is right for such a great new technology. Hopefully in the near future, the price will go down, so that more people may be able to afford this new technology and can have access to all these excellent features in their camcorders. Other than this minor technicality, I would definitely recommend this product to anybody looking for a new camcorder, or anybody buying a camcorder for the first time.
