In recent years companies began to introduce digital as the newest
format for home video recording. Sony quickly became the leader
in Digital Camcorders for one simple reason;
Sony has a knack for perfectly balancing the desire for options with
the need for durability and ease of use.
The DCR TRV11 is a perfect example of Sony's ability. The TRV11
possesses all of the best qualities that Sony has to offer in digital
video recording. Among the highlights are: LaserLink Connection,
Integrated A/D Converter, and Playback Zoom, as well a whopping
3.5" pop-out LCD viewscreen as an added perk. All of these
options are relatively easy to use and are very durable, without the
“gimmicky” feel that comes with the options on some other brands.
Integrated A/D Converter
The integrated analog to digital converter is one option that is most
likely to be taken for granted in the future. It is not, however,
available on all models today. The converter is responsible for
allowing this camcorder to take tapes recorded on analog
camcorders and convert the recording into the digital format, thus
allowing to transfer to computer or for saving as a digital recording
on another tape. This feature is especially desirable for anyone for
whom this would not be their first camcorder and who would
desire to maintain their recordings in all the same format, or for
those who may wish to email video stills, or archive stills taken
with an analog camcorder.
LaserLink Connection
This is more of a convenience feature than anything else. The
LaserLink allows you to connect your camcorder to your camera
without having to physically wire the two together. This is
convenient for anyone who shares video with friends or family
often.
The Replay Zoom
Being able to digitally zoom during replay is something that I have
always wanted to be able to do. Detectives in the movies are
always zooming in previously recorded video (“can you zoom in
on that face please? There, what is that? Ah, it WAS Ms. Scarlet!”)
I have finally found a camcorder which will allow me to do the
same thing with my recordings, although the 2X replay zoom isn’t
exactly crime-solving type zoom power.
Internet Deals
In an ongoing effort to save you, the camcorder purchaser, big
bucks, I have found a site on the ‘net which is offering this
camcorder at a significantly reduced price. The Epinions list price
is $1400, which in my opinion is a bit pricey. However,
www.bestphotovideo.com has an offer to sell the TRV11 for
just a shade over $1100, a pretty good discount. I am in no way
able vouch for this site, simply to share the price information and
site address in order to keep possible consumers informed.
This camcorder can be comfortably recommended to anyone in
the market for a new camcorder who is looking for the options and
features that have been mentioned above. If those features are not
desired Sony has a number of alternatives which should be
thoroughly reviewed before purchasing a camcorder by another
company. Nobody has to-date come up with anything
which can beat a Sony on overall durability and value.
