| TheJDogg1's Full Review: Sony Handycam DCR-TRV520 Digital-8 Camcorder |
The Sony TRV 520 is a slick camcorder, in fact, it's incredibly slick. I bought this camcorder almost 4 months ago, and I havn't let go. It's great for all sorts of functions and events, and the digital quality is flawless. I'll first start with what's great about this product.
For making musically enhanced movies, this camcorder tops the competition! I have a special sony microphone that I got with my sony minidisc, and the sound quality is unbeatable when attatched to the microphone slot. Also, the display buttons are easy to use and operate, and the cameras mode settings are easy to toggle if you want to play back a scene or do quick editing. The 3.5 LCD color screen has great pixels, and whats also nifty is that it rotates 360 degrees; if you videotape yourself with no one manning the camera, you can turn the screen to yourself and the picture will flip automatically!
Memory Stick media is what makes this camera extra special. It's a digital camera and a video camera in one! With a click of a button, you can save photos on the small memory stick, and by attaching a special cable to your computer, you can share and print photos for the privacy of your own home!
The camera also has a very powerful zoom, you can see almost anything with it, and the nightshot feature is out of this world! The camera will view anything in total darkness; it relies soley on infared motion!
The camera is also relativley light and very portable, it has had no problems and has sustained through maximum use.
However, the camera can be pricey. I paid $899 through a mail order catalog, however, in stores, you'd probably be able to see it going for around $1000. It's worth the money though and the camera will last you a life time.
Converting 8 mm tapes into VHS's are easy through the camcorder, with a single cable and a VCR, you have a VHS tape in moments!
One downfall with the camcorder are there are so many options and the instructions are very difficult to read! If you're technologically illiterate, you may need some help deciphering the sony instructions that are provided. If you do manage to understand them, you can make borders, titles, and other interesting designs on all your videos!
If you do intend to buy the camcorder, you will not be sorry, just prepare to have 1000 dollars handy!
