| jun123's Full Review: Sony DCR-VX2000 Mini DV Camcorder |
Now that the VX2100 and PD-170 are the top billers of Sony's Prosumer line of MiniDV camcorders, The mighty VX2000 will be approaching lower and lower prices from most retailers and pretty much every reseller. So if you are in the market to purchase an excellent broadcast quality 3CCD camera, may I suggest the Sony DCR-VX2000.
I'm sure by now you know about its wonderful features like the high quality fixed lens. Or the 3 amazingly sharp 1/3" CCD chips sporting 380,000 pixels, each. How about its memory stick feature, capable of capturing still images and matting them directly in to your video. And I am sure you have heard that it handles low light situations just as well as its professional brother, the PD-150! But what about its durability?
I first purchased a VX2000 mid 2002. Since then it has been on a countless amount of adventures to numerous conventions including the San Diego Comic Convention 02 and 03, Electronic Entertainment Expo aka E3 2003, and Siggraph 2003. While it may seem like a walk in the park, sometimes these crowds get fairly packed and things start to get banged, knocked around and sometimes even dropped. My VX2k has filmed many a short film that have included waterworks, pyrotechnics and suspension of the camera from great heights and from moving vehicles. It has filmed numerous documentary featurettes going on long, seemingly non-stop recording sessions. It has captured countless hours of tape (of different brands I might add! - NOT recommended). And throughout all of this, the camera has yet to fault, hiccup, whine, complain or disappoint. It is a true workhorse.
If you are looking for a 3CCD camera that has to be durable and withstand coarse situations, then I recommend the Sony VX2000.
