maddieslyo's Full Review: Sony DCR-VX2000 Mini DV Camcorder
The Sony is fantastic. It is very expensive, but it's features are incredible. The most interesting feature is the 3CCD(one for each color-red,green,and blue). I am also very impressed with its playback because of its progressive scan feature.
This really is a great camera for the money. Especially now that Sony has announced the TRV 1000. Current price is as low as $1700, or so. The camera has some short comings, but all in all, you can’t go wrong. The picture is extremely sharp for a camera this size. In fact, many thing it is too sharp. Nonetheless, the camera produces a clean picture. The menu is fairly intuitive, and of course, shooting is a relative breeze. Auto Zoom on the camera leaves a lot to be desired. It will take some real practice to get this camera’s zoom to move the way you want it too. It just is too sensitive. Auto Focus is not bad either. Manual focus is cumbersome, to say the least.
Be careful rewinding tapes on this thing. Over time, there is a sticky build up that occurs on the tape guides inside the camera which will cause tape crinkling when the tape is run to the end and then rewound.
It does have its shortcomings, however, and should not be considered the ultimate video camera. Working with audio requires a separate adaptor from a third party, and because this is primarily a VIDEO camera, the still function may not be good enough for some. I have, however, found the still function to be actually quite good and by using a little touch-up in Adobe Photo Deluxe, they look astounding. A perfect application for the still function would be for web applications, but I did manage to get some great results printing from my Epson Stylus Color 800.
