| SkiMedicKC's Full Review: Hitachi DV-P505U DVD Player |
The DVC605U is an upgraded model of the DVP505U with a five disc changer, additional high-grade outputs, wonderful list of features with up to 32x forward/reverse mode, multiple camera angles, etc.
However, this unit has the same problem as the DVP505U!!! It can not reliably read dual layered DVD's (which is most of the titles available now). It will skip, freeze, audio will be delayed, or in some cases just lock up entirely and the entire unit must be powered off in order to use any functions (such as the STOP button). I returned my unit twice for exchange and all three had the same problem to varying degrees. I even exchanged them at different store locations in case there was a problem when they were being shipped. Hitachi was not helpful at all, and stated they had never heard of this problem before. After researching on the web, I found numerous reports of problems such as this. Amazing how Hitachi won't admit a MAJOR flaw with their product.
This problem does not show itself immediately, but often not until halfway through a movie. Hitachi suggests a warranty repair at a service center, but that would take up to 3 weeks. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE for a new out-of-the-box unit. I called two of the repair centers they recommended and was advised that both the DVC605U and the DVP505U are a constant problem and they recommended I return my unit and purchase a different brand.
I returned my unit, got a different brand and have had NO difficulty with the new unit!!
