Pros: Great progressive scan,
Great price
Cons: Remote keys a bit too small and hard to differentiate by touch.
The Bottom Line: The JVC XV-723CD DVD player is JVC's flagship player to date. It offers excellent picture and sound quality for the $399. Buy it while you still can.

| apcarandang's Full Review: JVC XV-D723 DVD Player |
I had the Pioneer DV-434 for the last six months. I enjoyed the picture quality but somehow I wasn't sure I was getting the best picture quality since all other TRUE progressive scan DVD players to date are above the $800 mark. I know most manufacturers are coming out with new progressive players this month but I just couldn't wait anymore.
First of all the picture quality of this player is phenomenal. Colors are bright without being saturated. Skin tones are also accurate. I have had this player for no more than a few hours and I'm totally blown away with the picture quality.
I thought the Pioneer DV-434 had a lot of detail but the JVC shows even more detail. I did an A/B comparison on the picture quality of both machines. JVC is generally has a sharper image quility than the former.
The XV-D723 also has two user picture presets. Quite useful if you high definition TV like mine (Panasonic) has one global picture setting.
You do need to have a high definition monitor/TV to appreciate JVC's progressive scanning capabilities.
The JVC XV-D723 is now only $399 at Best Buy. When this player came out its MSRP was $800.
By the time most of you read this most manufacturers would have released their new progressive scan models. From what I have gathered the cheapest progressive scan player aside from Pioneer DV434 ($230) will be around $300. One has to remember though that the JVC also can play DVD Audio. DVD audio players currently cost over $1000 which makes this player a bargain. But then again very few DVD Audio titles are available right now and with Sony's SACD version I think we're in for another Beta vs. VHS match.
I have not had a chance to listen to DVD Audio. This player came with a DVD-Audio CD sampler. I will tell you more about it once I set up the this player in my other room.
