I replaced my OLD broken JVC DVD with this.
For my old one I paid $250 (the original MSRP was $450)
It was going to be $200 to fix the laser on it.
For this one I paid $290 for an open box buy (actually it came in the box, but anyway), I added a 3 year warranty for under $50. So $340 total for a DVD player with a list of $899 !
The picture resolution and color even on my analogue TV is wonderful, in fact it saved me $2000 because I was about to buy a HD TV. Mine is hooked up to a Yamaha surround sound system and it sounds excellent.
You can turn off the display when watching a film so you're not distracted - nice !
It's a high end box with excellent functionality, you can feel the quality when you pick it up.
I bought mine at SoundTrack and all the HD TV's they had running a DVD were hooked up to one of these players. The only exception was a $3000 Bose
I don't like the remote.
It has some nice features (a wheel for FWD and BCK that works proportionally to the amount you turn it) but is very very ugly.
I can't fault this machine (so far).
Update: -
I have discovered a new feature that I really like.
The system has a zoom option which allows you to zoom in on any part of the picture - very Blade Runner !
How I have found this useful is when watching 1 : 2.35 movies, it's possible to zoom in and view it more like a 1 : 1.85 and with a smaller TV and for those of us who prefer full screen makes watching a movie that wide a little nicer.
You lose a tiny bit in resolution but the resolution is that good anyway it's not a big deal.
It also allows you to store color and brightness combinations so you can see it how you want to see it.
Both these are just adding to my enjoyment of this machine.
