First of all, No - this DVD player is not the cure for cancer.
The Story…
I admit that I am a bargain hunter - I love to shop for sale items, especially when it comes to electronics. There's nothing that I like to see more than floor models on sale, or returned items repackaged for a 20 or 30% off. No warrantee? No problem, I can't help myself - I will buy it. Yeah, it's not that smart and yea I wind up getting screwed over a lot, but when you get that awesome value it's all worth it.
Keep this in mind as I walk into the Wiz with $120 the week after Christmas. I had my mind set on buying a DVD player - anything in my price range would have been acceptable. As I walk around past the $200-$500 DVD players that everyone is looking at I come to a box sitting on the ground, open. "Oritron?", I say to my friend who's with me. "Never heard of em." That however, is not a factor in my decision making. A main factor was that the big price tag that said $129 on it, and I was able to talk to the manager, and get 30% off for it being an open box. Content with my purchase, and happy that I had enough left over to buy a DVD, I haul home to set it up to my new flat screen TV.
Nervous, as usual, driving home when the fact starts to set in that I just bought an Oritron DVD player, a brand that I have NEVER heard of before in all of my 18 years of existance, and also that this thing could just be an empty box filled with old furniture parts, and I wouldn't know the difference.
The DVD Player
I sat on the ground of my room, pawing at the box which had been resealed with white "Wiz" tape. I finally remove the unit itself - it's OK looking, a little big, but I was still giddy about the price. It even had a remote. All the cables were there and the instructions provided good directions on how to set up the DVD player to my TV, which was good. I placed it on the ground next to my TV and hooked it up top the video input of my television. I plugged it in and hit power. It even had a decent looking display on the front.
Honestly, I couldn't be more happy with this DVD player. It has everything that you would be getting in any other basic DVD player, the essentials needed, for a cheaper price. It has the chapter advance and the fast forward and rewind. It can run through the menu screen of the DVD without any problems, and so far there is nothing that this thing can't do that I have wanted it to. It has subtitles, screen layout options, audio and video options, and basically everything that you could possibly need, unless you're using the DVD player for professional purposes. It even has a good looking on screen display. This baby is perfect for just regular home use.
The only function that I have noticed that has not been perfect is that this DVD player takes a couple seconds longer than other DVD players to load the movie itself. This isn't really noticeable unless you have experienced another DVD player, but the Oritron lags behind about 3 seconds. But if you're just looking for basic use, this shouldn't even be a concern of yours, just as it isn't for me.
The picture is great, the functions are good, the remote is a little small, but hey- remember how much you paid for this. This is overall a amazing value if you are looking for a basic home DVD player for cheap. Oritron, a name that I doubted in the beginning has proved itself to me.
