| fortunecookie's Full Review: Panasonic DMR-E10 DVD Recorder |
WHAT:
*****
The Panasonic DMRE10 is THE future of DVD. This recorder with Progressive Scanning Output delvers the crystal clean true-to-film picture playback that we have already grown to love from DVD's. The MPEG2 Encoding with hybrid VBR (variable bit rate) provides EXCELLENT picture quality by combining the two encoding technologies of Real Time and Visibility Modulation Technology. Simply put...this recorder will blow your mind!!!!!!
FEATURES:
**********
While this magnificent piece of machinery is only a single disk player, at 5"high X 17" wide and 14" deep it's the perfect size to complete any "tech heads" home theater system. It has three diffrent recording modes, Input TBC and 3D Y/C Separation, Dolby Digital 2-channel audio recording, Direct Navigator, playlist function, audio level meter, virtual battery operation, shuttle control, both optical and coax digital outputs, and what the heck...a multi-brand/ multi-function illuminated remote control.
WHY?:
*****
Not because it's necessary...but because it's NEW. It's not the perfect toy for the everyday average joe, but for the one who loves to have the coolest and newest toys and doesn't mind spending a little extra for it... Why not. It wasn't so long ago that people were spending in excess of a thousand dollars for a machine we now call a VCR. That being said, i think that $2999 isn't too much; considering that you will be one of the very first people to actually have a "DVD Burner". For those of you lacking the $$$$ or plastic to make such a purchase... cheer up, after all the vcr is under $100 bucks now, so in a few years maybe you could also own a DVD burner!
ROOKIES GLOSSARY
****************
**Digital coax output**an output jack for digital signal transmission using a coaxial wire
**Digital optical output**an output jack which transmits digital signals between componets via a fiber optic cable which is "immune" to magnetic and electrical interferance.
**DVD** Digital Video Disk or Digital Versitile Disk
**Multi-brand/componet remote** a remote with the capability of controlling multiple componets from diffrent manufacturers (and the DMRE10's remote glows!)
**progressive scan** the TV's we have been watching create a picture using a process called interlace scan, which creates an image in two interlaced fields first the odds (1,3,5,etc) and then the even lines (2,4,6,etc). progressive scan creates a picture with a single image, scanning all the lines in succession (1,2,3,4,etc). Pictures created using progressive scan look very sharp and crisp.
HAVE FUN WITH IT
****************
The whole reason we buy this stuff; we love it, and we have fun with it. I personally think this is definately a great toy, but it's not for everyone mainly because of the price point. If you can afford it (or even if you really can't) i suggest being a pioneer in the digital age and trying it out or at least go to your local retailer and play with it. I found the PAN DMRE10 at Circuit City ( ijust had to ask around and do a little of my own research) but their price was signifigantly less expensive than what i expected for one of the very first Digital Video Disk Recorders.
