| wieges's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RV30 DVD Player |
My boyfriend recently told me he wanted to buy a DVD player, yes he is one of those who likes a lot of "toys" around the house. I agreed to do some shopping around with him, maybe find something that we both liked that wasn't too expensive. He did a lot of research on his own, finding out about different brands, and looking to see what others had to say about them.
Then finally we got to go shopping around. Well actually we only hit one place, Sears. My boyfriend had read about the Panasonic DVD-RV30 and liked what he heard, but he had yet to see one in the stores. Well Sears had one on the shelf right inside the door, and it was on sale too. So we checked it out, and yes it had everything that we wanted.
It was going to work for the television he has now, and it will work with just about any entertainment system we get in the future too. So it will last us a long time as long as it doesn't break on us. There are 2 A/V (Audio/Video) left and right outputs, an S-video output, and a Dolby Digital Output. All of these were important to my boyfriend because that is what his television has right now, and he wanted the maximum quality he could get if he was adding this little toy to his system.
There is also an extra A/V output for a powered sub-woofer, if you so choose to have one. We haven't tried this feature out yet because neither of us have a sub-woofer, and a good one can get pretty expensive. But from what I hear the sound will be totally enhanced if this feature is added somewhere along the way. The sound will truly sound like you are in a theater with the thumping sounds coming from the sub-woofer.
But without the sub-woofer there isn't much to complain about. The sound quality is great, so much better than anything I have heard at home before. I mean it still isn't like a theater (but it probably could be), but it is getting pretty darn close.
Also, the picture is absolutely wonderful. I don't think that it could get much better than this! I don't think any DVD player would look better than this does. Everything is clear and you really think that you are sitting in a good theater when watching the picture.
There are a lot of little extras with this player also. There are different audio options so that you can get the best quality with your system. There are also options that work with certain movies. There is this one option that allows you to change the camera angles, but like I said this only works with movies that have been programmed with this kind of capability. There are a lot of buttons on this remote, but I don't think it would take too long to figure out what all of them are.
One down side to this player is that it does not come with an S-Video cable, that you will have to buy for yourself. Unless you are like my boyfriend. He asked the guy at the store if it came with one, and the guy said yes (at the time we didn't know that it didn't). So we didn't buy one, then when we got it home and opened it up there wasn't one. So my boyfriend called the store and they guy apologized for the the mistake and told us to come in and he would give us one. So, who knows.
But I think that if you are in the market for a DVD player, but don't know what you want to buy yet, this might be a good option. This player will work with just about any of the newer televisions and you can always upgrade later with out worrying about needing newer equipment. So if you weren't sure before, I say don't worry about it, go and get this player and I am sure that you will love it!
