| Hikki's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RV30 DVD Player |
Who wouldn’t want a DVD player? They’re the hottest thing right now, and it’s easy to see why. The picture quality is better than that of a VCR and the sound is fantastic as well. Of course, a lot of us don’t know a whole lot about DVD players. Fortunately, the Panasonic DVD-RV30 is easy to use—and cheap too.

PICTURE
I have to admit, I was thoroughly impressed with the picture quality. The Digital Cinema Mode feature allows you to view the DVD with improved color and detail even when the scene is dark. It is possible to fast forward/reverse in five speeds at up to 100x the original rate, though I find the fastest speed is not very easy to use. Because the player is going so fast, it only shows a screenshot periodically, and it is difficult to tell where you are in the movie by the brief pictures that appear.
SOUND
The sound on this DVD player blew me away. I don’t even have a surround sound stereo system, yet I was still able to hear great sound with the help of the Virtual Surround Sound feature. This creates a simulated surround sound without a whole lot of equipment. Also, the Dialogue Enhancement feature was an interesting characteristic I have never heard of. It lowers the level of the background sound while keeping the voices at the same volume so you can still hear the dialogue. This is especially helpful when watching a movie that has a good deal of background noise that would drown out the voices.
GENERAL
The player looks like it’s built sturdily and it isn’t too large. On the front panel of this machine, only the most used buttons are shown so the panel isn’t cluttered. Also, the remote fits the hand well and the buttons are sized appropriately.
Overall, I thought this player was great! The picture and sound quality are excellent, and the machine is fairly easy to use. And best of all, the price is great for all the features that this machine includes. I’m no electronics expert, but I know enough to recognize that this DVD player is exceptional.
