| sweetcece's Full Review: Sony DVP-S360D DVD Player |
Last March, I won a contest on a competing shopping site other than epinions. The prize as a Sony DVP-S360 DVD Player. Since this DVD player was being sold earlier this year at a cost of $300, I considered this to be a fine prize indeed. And I still do even though the price of this particular system has gone down dramatically.
Sony DVP-S360 DVD Player
There are many features to the Sony DVP-S360 DVD Player that I enjoy. These include the following:
Great Picture
The picture quality of the Sony S360 DVD is fantastic. One of the first movies that I purchased in DVD format was Casablanca and I was totally impressed that this DVD has such a high performance. After reading so many negative epinions about other brands, I was afraid that when I received the Sony S360 that it would be inferior. I was glad I was wrong.
High Performance
Another thing that I like about my Sony S360 DVD is that the player does not skip through the DVDs and when I tell the system to hold the images or stop that it does exactly what I want it to do. Having a supposedly "lower end" DVD such as this one was advertised to be, I thought I would have troubles with this part of the machine. However, again, I was pleased I was wrong.
Plays CDs
Another thing that I enjoy about my Sony S360 DVD player is that it plays CDs great! While these CDs would sound better being played through my speakers, I am happy that I was able to play my music in the first place because I had thrown out my CD component on my stereo a few months ago because it was eating CDs. Not having to purchase another component is really great.
Lock Out Feature
One of the other things that I anticipate using in the future is the lock out feature for a history of DVDs that I do not want my younger son to watch. While right now he is "forbidden" to even TOUCH the DVD player, I anticipate that one day I'll get brave and let him use it. (not any time soon though!)
There are many movies that I do not want him watching without parental supervision so this feature of locking up to 50 DVDs out so that he can not even play them is a great feature that I don't have currently on my VCR.
Things I Don't Like About My Sony DVP-S360 DVD
There are a few things that I don't like about my Sony DVD player. These include the following:
Remote
One of the main things that I do not like about my Sony DVD player is the fact that the remote has too many features on it. Now that may sound absolutely insane, but remember one thing. I am not one of these individuals who likes to play with electronical toys. I am a basic bare to bones person who likes to have electronics perform as simply and efficiently as possible.
Having all of these buttons and options are great for someone who is into that kind of thing. But when I find myself confused at times trying to get my remote to do what I would like for it to do without me having to look and search for the right button to push.
Size
Another thing that I don't like about my Sony S360 DVD player it its size. I have an existing stereo component system and put my DVD player into the CD stereo component section. For some reason, the depth of this unit does not fit in my cabinet. I can't eject my DVD without opening the cabinet door and this causes a problem when I hit the wrong button on my remote.
Connectivity
Another thing that I don't like about my Sony S360 DVD player is that I can't connect it to my receiver. My receiver is too old and in order to make this DVD play, I have to connect it directly to my television set. So, I do not get the benefit of some of the better sound quality that I would have normally gotten had I been able to connect through to my speakers.
Final Thoughts and Recommendation
Even if I had to pay a hundred dollars or so, I feel that I have gotten a great deal with my Sony DVP-S360 DVD player. It's really been a great addition to our electronics collection and one that I anticipate will be used for many years to come.
