I don't know of another player that offers so much value. The S-Video connection is great. I have this unit connected to a Sony Trinitron set, and the picture quality is quite nice. The remote control has a logical layout, and is extremely easy to operate, especially if you have another recent Sony product (like my tv), whose remote is nearly identical to the DVD remote.
The fast forward and rewind clarity is quite good at any speed. I like the angle feature, which lets you view a different camera shot of a scene (of course, the actual movie must provide an alternate angle). The overall image quality is quite good, and the audio is quite nice also. I do have a Bose based sound system, so I'm sure that helps the Sony out a little! The display is a nice blue, which is easy to read in the dark from far, but isn't distracting while you watch a movie.
While this unit has many nice features, not everything is nice. The player is a bit noisy. Although I wouldn't give it one star just because it is noisy. You get used to it though, and eventually disregard it. Another bother is that it can't play CD-R cd's. Look, you can't expect to find a BMW in your driveway when you own a Honda, and you can't expect this DVD player to do what a $1000 player can do. What I can say is a couple of my friends have higher priced Pioneer and Toshibas, and while the units might load 5 cds at a time, their picture quality is the same as this Sony's. This is a nice buy for the money, and it is a SONY.
