Like others have discovered, this line of VCRs has a tragic flaw: It eats tapes all too often. I've found that tapes recorded in SLP get shredded, jammed, or misaligned almost without exception.
On the plus side, the machine's picture quality is fine and output is in stereo (one of the reasons I wanted to upgrade). I have no use for the VCR Plus feature since I see no way to make use of it with my cable box. Other features like commercial advance and movie advance (an attempt to jump past trailers straight to the feature) simply didn't work for me.
When playing standard commercial-quality tapes it seems to perform fine most of the time, but I'd definitely avoid this line of machines in the future.
