I purchased my very first VCR 3 years ago and I happened to buy the GE 4 head model because it was in my price range and it met most all of the qualifications for the type of VCR I wanted to own. Well, it was not even 2 years before I started to have trouble with this VCR.
The first thing to go was the rewind/search function. The VCR would sometimes eat the tape when I tried to rewind during playback. So, I decided to ignore that and just stop the playback and rewind it that way. That seemed to do the trick until I started getting and 'err' message on the frontal display once in a while when I tried to rewind at stop.
Again, I decided to put up with this annoying 'feature' of the VCR because I was not about to go out and lay down another $140 for a new VCR. As more time went on, the VCR would randomly just shut off on a whim and I began to realize that possibly the motor inside the VCR was dying off. I finally decided to go get a new VCR when the frequency of 'tape eating' became much too aggravating for me to stand.
So, basically, I feel the quality of GE VCR's are very poor considering that this new one did not even last 2 years!! In my opinion, a VCR should give you at least 3-4 years of good quality.
I don't feel that I abused the equipment in any way, so I am very disappointed to say the least, and I will never buy another GE VCR again.
