| jystrebler's Full Review: AKG K 240M Professional Headphones |
I bought these to do some home-recording a few years back. First, they sound great. I'm not sure how you add to a statement like that. It takes some pretty good speakers to do better. Headphones have really advanced in the past few decades, and these have advanced along with them.
They're essentially unchanged since the early 1990s, so the design is proven and stable.
You will get some bleed-through: the sound escapes the headphones, even when they're solidly on your head. So, for true professional recordings, I don't know if I'd use these. For home recording, though, they're fine.
For listening to your stereo, they're great.
They're very light, and the ear-pads are comfortable. Quite an improvement from the old style that felt like there was a clamp on your head.
The only downside is price. They cost about as much now as they did when I first bought them. They should have gotten cheaper over time. Go figure.
For the person who wants really good phones to listen to music with, or the person doing home recording, these are great.
Audiophiles and professional recording studios may wish to go with something else.
Also, unless you're REALLY into music (as in, those cheap walkman headphones sound great to you), the price of these makes them something you probably won't ever need.
