| gunsroland's Full Review: AKG K 270S Professional Headphones |
I am an electric guitar player. I used to play primarily through headphones because I lived with my parents and they did not appreciate me cranking up my amp and rattling the windows. So I would use effect pedals and play into the amp and out to headphones.
I tried this witha variety of different headphones and always had the same result. Whenever I would crank up the distortion and really start to rock, the headphones would overload and distort on their own, thus changing the true sound of what I was trying to play.
After I got my K270S, I was sitting in awe at the sound I could get from these. I could crank the outputs up as high as I wanted to and these headphones would not distort. At last I was able to use headphones for real guitar playing without waking up the whole neighborhood.
If you are looking for "great audiophile headphones" then look someplace else. These are studio monitors. They are not meant for listening to CDs. They are meant to be used for studio type work that requires excellent sound quality with no distortion.
Price is one bad thing about these. But they are worth the price.
One problem I do experience is that the headphone is understandably large and fits over the entire ear, thus creating a suction effect that literally blocks out all outside sound. This is great for audio reasons, but not for comfort. It feels weird the first few hours you wear them, and they make my ears sweat too.
Small price to pay.
