dvogonen's Full Review: Grado SR80 Professional Headphones
There are many reviews of the audio capabilities of these headphones and these are almost unanimous in their high praise. I agree with these positive reviews. The Grado SR 80s sounds simply spectacular, and I will not linger on the audio side of things. The Grado SR80s are clearly as well sounding as anything in the price range. That's it, plain and simple.
The most problematic aspect of the product is that the foam used to cushion your ears causes them to heat up while listening. I simply can not bear this for longer than 10-15 minutes at a time. This might sound like a small problem, but it is not.
While the actual headphone is quite light and could be used in mobile situations, the cord is long, fat and heavy. If you plan to use a mobile device like an Ipod you should consider Grado SR60, which seem to be the same headphones with a lighter cord, .
The physical appearance of the headphones closely mimics a radio telegrapher set from the mid thirties. Those went out of style in the forties and have stayed out of style since. If you are going for a nerd image the Grados are clearly for you.

The plastic pieces have the look and feel of Chinese toys in the sub 1$ range. The silver paint used to highlight the lettering comes of as soon as you touch it and all edges are rough and unfinished. There are a plenitude of mold marks on the plastic. etc. I expected more. Even if I bought the headphones for the sound, I was expecting that they would look at least as good as my 20$ Sony cheapies.
