| hanseugene's Full Review: Koss TD 60 Headphones |
I bought these headphones at Fry's Electronics; I was looking for something cheap but durable and they've definitely fit the bill quite nicely. Without much previous experience purchasing audio equipment or headphones I didn't really didn't know what I was looking for. By a stroke of luck I ended up with the Koss TD 60 headphones.
I bought the TD 60s because they looked solid, comfortable and like they would have fairly good sound quality. Additionally, they only cost $14. For a pauper teen like me the price was perfect.
After using them for a period I can say that their durability and comfort quotients are exceptional. Although I live in a house with small siblings, they still haven't managed to even put a nick in these headphones. The only area that might be a potential cause for concern in the thinness of the cord: I can imagine that given a year or so of heavy usage it may begin to break or pull away from the headphones. Unfortunately, the durability the TD 60s provide is at the price of portability. They are a very bulky model.
One of the things that I've liked best about the headphones is how comfortable they are. Usually when I wear cheap headphones for after hour or two I feel like I have a vice clamped over my ears and am forced to take them off. However the cushioning on these is so excellent that I can wear them for hours without any discomfort.
The sound quality is only average: something which is, I suppose, to be expected from cheapo headphones, even if they are made by Koss. Generally the sound is fairly bright and clean but at high frequencies a loud buzz is audible. The bass is good, but not great. If you are listening to pop music it shouldn't cause any problems but with many classical pieces the lack in depth of bass is irritating.
Overall, I would recommend the Koss TD 60 headphones to anyone looking for something cheap and durable. If you're a penniless music lover (like me) they are ideal. However, if you have a little more to spend I'd recommend that you look for something with slightly higher quality sound.
