I went out to replace my Denon headphones, worth a LOT more than these, but in my travels I was surprised. These headphones are not realistic, I wouldn't advise comparing their performance to $2000 stereo speakers, but the sound is very listenable. They are extremely lightweight. And sound-junkie that I am, I can listen to them in comfort for 8 hours. I couldn't do that with my old ones, or with new ones of the same price, and as such, they are better overall.
Live performances sound more real with these headphones, but then these are not of the 'enclosed' type. They're rated as 'digital' reproducers, and they are. The highest ranges are faithfully reproduced.
And now for the down side. By industry standards, they handle extremes quite well, but by my standards, things are a little different.
Punchy bass (as against predictable bass) is not possible. I do suspect, from various experiments in audio shops, that this is the ultimate test (for those with more money than they need) when trying to find the best sound quality.
Mid-range is good, and high-range cannot be faulted - so if you're after a great (but not *superb*) set of headphones that you can place on your head and forget for the next few hours, these are right for you. If perfection is all the you can handle, try those twice the price, or more...
