The Sennheiser 490s are a pleasent, non-fatiguing headphone that places emphasis on the bass. The 490s have good highs and mids, and a forward, undefined bass. Look at the 495s for a more neutral presentation. They are easily powered by a portable player and, because of their warm, laid-back sound, they are easy to listen to. These lightweight, comfortable headphones offer good sound at a good price.
The Sennheiser 490s sit comfortably on the head-- the headband has an airy, plastic cushion on the down side for added comfort. They have tear-drop shaped earpieces, with soft foam earpads, that sit on top of the ear. They are adjustable and made of a flexible plastic for durability. At 32 ohms, the 490s are easily driven by a portable player or an amp. The 490s are conveniently connected by a straight cable to one earpiece, which helps eliminate double cord tangling. The 490s have a connector cable that is easily replaceable, which could come in handy. They come terminated to a mini and come with a 1/4 inch adapter.
