| Wolvie3985's Full Review: Sennheiser HD-490 Consumer Headphones |
I was looking for a set of cans, since my computer speakers were booming through the walls keeping people up. I had heard about Sennheiser making the best headphones, so I investigated to find a good set for under $75. I read the reviews and concluded the 490's were the best for the money. I got mine for $50, and they were/are worth every penny.
I really enjoy Rap, Techno, Classical, and Metal. Yeah, I know, a really varied musical taste. But, amazingly, the 490's were great in all areas tested. I could change to any type of Genre and still enjoy great sounding music.
Through my testing, I found these cans to be very comfortable. You could easily have them on for 6 hours, for these really have great, untiring sound. I have had many late night surfing romps with these phones and my ears only got tired after about 8 hours of continuous use.
How do they sound? Well, the selling point is probably the very boomy bass. For my favorite Genres, it really helps having great bass. But, this may not be to all peoples liking, so be weary if you aren't a bass oriented headphone person.
As for the mids and highs? The mids are marvelous, but highs are sometimes problems. Highs can become distorted, witnessed by classical's sometimes extremely high range. But, most people who are buying these aren't true audiophiles, or else you would go with something like the HD600.
To conclude, I found the HD490's great for the $50 I got them for at www.audioadvisor.com . They were comfortable, had great bass, and were overall a great buy.
