Over $15,000.00 for a headphone setup. What should one expect after spending this amount of money. I was expecting the ultimate headphone listening experience.
The package looked impressive. The design appeared logical - tubed amp. The headphone was comfortable, but after listening to the setup I was confounded as to why the price was so high. In my opinion, this is not the ultimate headphone setup.
My preference for the ultimate headphone setup would be a Cary CAD-300SEI ($3995.00) driving a pair of Grado RS1 ($695). The difference between these two setups is quite different. You might be wondering as to what the differences are. This is difficult to describe to someone who has not experienced a good (there are some that are not as good) single-ended-triode tube amplifier. My best description is that it sounds more real and life-like. If you close your eyes and listen, you will feel like you could touch the performers.
I am not trying to tell anyone not to purchase the Orpheus, but I do recommend that you listen to it before making your purchase.
