| strungout's Full Review: Sony MDR-G72LP Consumer Headphones |
Everybody is claiming how these headphones suck. People complain about no bass (which is half true), discomfort (which is easily solved), and an overall crappy sound (nope). These headphones actually sound quite good. I was kinda skeptical of these headphones due to bad reviews, but got myself a pair anyway. I use them with my Sony MZ-N505 Minidisc player everywhere, and I do not regret the purchase one bit.
The sound is very clear. The bass is VERY (yes, very)strong for headphones of this size when mega bass is turned on (preferably 2 stage), but without, the bass is kinda lacking. Treble is pretty good and very crisp. The mids are a little low, but isn't a problem unless you listen to music with very fine details. The volume is also very loud in comparison to the very muddy sounding MDR-G52LP/56V and the excellent sounding but kinda flat Koss Porta Pros. Overall, the sound is quite well, and is expected from headphones of this size and type.
The headphones have a neckband that goes behind the head instead of on the top of the head which won't mess up your hairstyle. They also look quite cool. These headphones MAY hurt your ears after a while, but it doesn't hurt me at all. I'm used to wearing these kind of headphones since I have spiky hair and am an active person. If they do hurt, you can pull out the little ear clips which give you a more relaxed feel. The cord is also of decent length, which makes working out or running feasible. The folding gimmick is actually quite useful when stuffing the headphones in your pocket or bag and they can take lots of abuse whether by textbooks or yourself. These headphones are very portable and make an excellent choice when traveling, working out, or just general everyday listening.
All in all, these headphones are MUCH better than what most people say. If you want a good overall sound, have a music player with a bass adder, are active, and don't want to mess up your hairstyle, get these headphones.
