sadida's Full Review: Sony MDR-V700DJ Professional Headphones
Let me start by saying that I don't own a set of Sony MDR-V700s, but I will soon! I've broken my other sets of headphones so I use my brother's V700s when I am spinning.
Comfort and build quality
* These are easily the most comfortable pair of headphones I have worn. I was really surprised that they were this comfortable. I expected something of this build quality (very strong) to be clumsy and heavy on my head. They were anything but. They almost "float" on your head. The earcups don't put any pressure on your head at all. That is especially nice if you are wearing headphones for any amount of time longer than an hour.
* I have heard others say that these headphones have scratched their heads and such. I haven't encountered this, and in fact, I tried to see if I could scratch myself and just couldn't make it happen.
* The headband is also a plus. It has some material to soak up sweat and the range of adjustment should fit anyone's head.
* The joints on these headphones are well built. The rotate smoothly and have just enough movement in them to not break when twisted in ways they weren't meant for.
* I'm a little worried that the ear cup foam will separate over time, but so far they are in mint condition.
Cord
* I like the coiled cord on these headphones. It is plenty long for going to your crates behind you, and at the same time doesn't get in the way when you are standing next to your mixer.
* The cord ends in a 1/8" jack, but a very nice screw on 1/4" adapter is also included.
* The connection of the cord to the phones is strong. It can stand quite a few accidental yanks.
Sound
* The sound is great. The frequency response is especially impressive for
headphones. Sony claims a frequency response of 16Hz-22kHz. The low end figure is definitely true. These suckers can put a little rumble in your skull.
* The sounds stays true at high volume levels too. This is essential for
cueing in loud environments.
Other
* These headphones come with a nice storage bag. When you see the bag you instantly think there is no way those phones would fit in there, but then you see how the phones fold up. Two pivots per side and the headphones curl up into a snug little ball.
* I like the silver color. It adds a bit of flair. The color isn't quite
the color of a SL-1200, but it is close enough :)
* The earcups also pivot such that you can lay these phones down flat. This is nice if you are worried about the phones rolling off onto the floor.
Negative Points
* Unfortunately, these phones almost fold too easy. Sometimes when I drop them to my neck, they will fold and pivot and then I have to mess with putting them straight again when I bring them back up to my ears. This could be a problem if you are doing some fast mixing.
* Price. While these phones are still cheaper then comparable models by Technics, Pioneer, etc. they still cost over $100. If they do break, get lost, or get stolen, you won't be as happy as the person that just has to buy a replacement for a $45 pair of phones.
My experience with these phones has been great. I can't wait to buy my own set, and I bet my brother can't wait either :)

Update
Well, it's coming up on 3 years since I wrote this review. I own 2 sets of these phones now. One set I leave at home and the other I use at work. I continue to be pleased with these phones every time I use them. They are quite durable and still look brand new. The cost has also come down a bit since I first wrote this. They are still highly recommended in my book.
