| retroactivism's Full Review: Kenwood CD-324M |
I hate changing CDs. I just plain hate it. I don't like opening cases, stuffing them into the player and returning the old one to it's case. My house used to be littered with CDs everywhere. Not a pretty sight. When I went looking for a new CD player, I saw the CD changer systems as a good solution to the problem. I was right.
The Kenwood 324M, in my opinion, is the best CD changer in it's class. It has a 200 disc capacity which is delivered to the player via a carousel which turns inside the player. The old disc is returned to it's place and the new disc is loaded. No fuss, and no mess!
This unit is the source for my system, which is comprised of the 324M, a small Kenwood receiver, and a pair of B&W series 2 speakers. I find the sound output of this CD player to be much more than good, it's excellent! I hear sounds on the CD that I can't ordinarily pick up with headphones.
Ideally, Kenwood would have you use this unit in conjunction with a Kenwood receiver. All Kenwood models come with hookups at the back that allow the user to control all units from a single remote. A nice bonus if you don't want to deal with more than one remote.
The 324M is fully programmable; allowing the user to load artist, track and album information either via the front panel or remote. Some CD's come with this information pre-loaded on them. The front panel can be a bit tedious as the letters are selected by turning a dial one at a time. I generally load only the album title so I can identify what CD is in the queue Beware! If you're planning on moving, leaving the unit unplugged for more than 3 hours may cause the loss of all the data in the unit.
The only major problem I've had with the 324M is the requirement that it be absolutely level with the ground. I've found that even a very small deviation can result in mis-loaded CDs. This makes a terrible mess inside the player, hung CD inside the changer can knock the others off the carousel.
Overall, the Kenwood 324 M is an excellent CD changer which will give great sound quality and functionality to any audio fan without breaking the budget.
