| myheartx4's Full Review: Kenwood CD-324M |
We purchased the Kenwood 324M CD Player in September 1999, to replace the CDi player we had been using for our music discs. We originally bought our Kenwood components (equalizer, receiver, tape deck) in Germany in 1993, and have been very pleased with them. They have survived moves from Germany to the United States, and from the mainland to Hawaii with no problem. (If you have ever had the military move your belongings, you can understand why it is a big plus for the system to have survived two overseas moves.) We wanted a new CD player because the remote for the CDi was lost in one of our moves, and with our new entertainment center, the CD player is on a shelf about 6 feet high, and I have trouble reaching the controls. We decided we were going to stick with Kenwood, both because we are happy with the quality and sound, but also to provide continuity and have just one remote for the stereo.
My favorite features:
Holds 200 discs (very convenient not to have to constantly climb on a stool or chair to put in a new disc, and has eliminated having my 2 year old open 150+ CD cases and mix all the CDs up)
Has CD-Text, basically, it reads programming off most CDs, such as the disc's title, tracks, artist, etc (This is very nice, because with 200 discs, it sometimes is difficult to find the disc you want to listen to)
"Sorting" (Discs can be sorted according to music style or can be programmed with several different users' preferences)
Programming (Standard on most CD players now...can select certain tracks you want to hear)
Text Entry (This is useful for the discs that don't include CD Text on them...you can register each disc's title, and the 324M remembers it, even if you remove the disc and then reinsert it in the same spot
The sleek black design matches my other components
Very easy to use The remote is simple to understand, even though it has 40 buttons. The owner's manual is very clear and concise and it took only minutes to learn to program the 324M
What I don't like:
Holds 200 discs (Loved this at first, but we also have a stereo upstairs and in our van, and it can be somewhat annoying to hunt through trying to find the particular one you want to remove....I do really like this feature, but at the same time, I wish I could tell it which disc I want and have it slide out toward me or something)
Only holds 200 discs (Now, please don't think I am losing my mind, I'm really not...we are soon to have a problem with this. I now have only 5 empty spots in my CD player, and am wondering...what do I do when I fill those slots? Do I remove a few CDs to play the new ones? Do I only listen to the new ones on my upstairs player or in the van? Or do buy another 324M to fill up? This something my husband and I didn't think about when we bought the player...although, I do have to say, we would have still purchased this player)
It doesn't work with the remote we had for the other components, so we still ended up with two remotes for the stereo system (This wouldn't be a big deal if the stereo weren't up so high in our entertainment center, as it is difficult for me to reach. With a DVD player, VCR, cable box, and TV, we have a grand total of 6 remotes floating around our living room!)
All in all, the Kenwood 324M CD player is very nice, and we have been extremely pleased with our purchase. The conveniences of this player far outweigh my minor complaints, and I strongly suspect we will purchase a second one in the near future, as our CD collection expands past the 200 disc mark.
