| lpmiller's Full Review: Pioneer PD-F507 25-Disc CD Changer |
Let's face it...cd players are cd players...I've yet to hear one that plays disk A better then another. After 20 years, they are pretty generic.
I didn't really need a new player, I had my DVD after all. But changing disks got to be a pain for me, the Laziest Man In The World, and my DVD couldn't handle CD-R disks...which meant my growing library of home made CD's couldn't be played.
The Pioneer has a lot going for it - 25 CD's, full Random play, programmable text mode (so you can label your CD's in the machine..nice when you want to play one specific disk and can't remember which slot its in). Access time per disk is speedy enough, especially on random play, and it has an optical output (though it did not come with the wires for it) so if you have a tuner that supports that - use it! It actually sounds better that way.
Weird thing, though. Its supposed to be random play, but I swear the CD player has 'moods'. Sometimes, it plays soft, slow music. Sometimes it plays rockin tunes. Sometimes, it plays only my Hall & Oates CD's. I like Hall & Oates, but it gets a little - bizarre - to say the least when random play bounces back and forth between those 2 disks, with the only break in between is(in half an hour mind you) Prince's Sexy Mo Fo (hey, thats the wife's disk, please stop looking at me like that, it's rude).
Haunted Jukebox, I call it. As long as it's not playing cd's I DIDN'T put in there, I'll let it have it's way.
Anyway, the price has gone down on this unit, and you should be able to find one for around 120 bucks, sometimes less. Its light, easy to set up, and the remote is a lot more user friendly then is typical for Pioneer. Of course, like most multi-cd machines, it is a bit on the bulky side, so make sure your entertainment center has room for it. Ultimately, a cd player should be unnoticable - your supposed to play with the tuner, not the player - and this unit never needs your attention. Lazy man's dream, really.
A nice unit for those that hate to get up. Yes, I AM that lazy.
