I have read this a few times but still come up with OT. It seems you are writing on a different model number then the topic.
Please feel free to let me know if I am wrong.

I Remember . . . (Reply to this comment)

Dear ASourdough4, an Excellent Review.
Yes, indeed, I remember wire recorders. Adolph did not realize that he had the true secret weapon in the early '30s, which was the wire recorder.
I remember pressing forward and reverse on a school recorder at almost the same time. Snapped the wire. What to do? I tied the two ends together in a square knot.
Made an unpleasant P-I-N-N-N-G-g-g-g, when the recording came to the break.
Probably not good for the heads, either.
Regards.

My oldest... (Reply to this comment)
by mkp51
...stereo component is a Pioneer digital timer, model number DT-555, which I purchased in an Army Air Force Exchange in 1987. My next oldest is a Technics 5-disc carousel CD changer, model number SL-PD887, which I bought in 1996 at the same AAFES exchange.
I also have an old, old Pioneer stereo receiver, 240 watts/channel, that dates back to 1978, when I was a young GI stationed on Okinawa. Also have the TEAC cassette deck (single cassette with analogue counter, but also with electronic soft controls and auto reverse) that I bought on the same day as the Pioneer receiver.
Amazing how long stuff lasts when built tom last, wouldn't you say?
Anyway, your review is superb... filled with an in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for your subject.
By the way... no longer painting houses. Now I deliver the mail on a rural route for the USPS.

Thanks for the kind words.
I, too, am skeptical about those picky disc selections. It reminds me of IBM warning us back in 1986 not to install Lotus 123 on their 8088 PC. "Might ruin something or void the warranty". Sure.
Even though I am NOT an anarhist, I still would try like heck to make one of my Maxell CD-R/W work on this player. Then, if it dint, I'd let everyone know - LOUDLY!
Regards.

Excellent review (Reply to this comment)

Well organized, exuding many years of hands on experience with every sentence... and just a tad eccentric at the same time. All the makings of a great review.
So very strange that this device is picky about what type of recordable CD media that it can play.
See you around
