| shiners's Full Review: Pioneer PD-F908 101-Disc CD Changer |
I never cared much for high-capacity CD changers for some reason. I guess I always thought they would be too much trouble, unreliable, or maybe just a waste of money. I was wrong. I didn't realize what I was missing until my wife and I sat for at least 6 hours listening to music that we either forgot we had or just hadn't heard in a very long time. We have about 300 CD's and there are songs on a few of them that we have never heard. This changer allows us to get our money's worth out of our collection by making use of it in a way that we were unable to in the past.
The PD-F908 has a nice appearance that matches Pioneer's other equipment in style and display color settings. It is not crowded with buttons on the front panel and has an elegant amber light that can be seen through the smoke-tinted access door. It operates quietly, quickly, and reliably. I prefer the amber dot-matrix display over the same old blue on every other manufacturer's equipment. It looks much classier and professional in my opinion.
The remote is simple and straight-forward. It also has a power on/off button where others may not. The player has a "single disc" access tray and special button that turns the discs immediately to that location for loading/unloading. When you here a song that you especially like, just hit the "Best" button (on the remote or changer)and it will store up to 20 of your favorites at a time. Hit the "Best" button again one day when the player is stopped and hear all of your favorites.
The +/- buttons rotate the carriage quickly and very precisely when loading or unloading cd's. Everything can be categorized in custom groups for multiple listeners and the programming feature allows you to play only the songs that you want to hear. A repeat feature is also available. The "Random" option makes your 100+1 discs into a juke box for endless care-free listening. Parties are more enjoyable when the player can simply be left unattended.
Use the digital optical out connection to get the most out of this player. Have someone help you load it the first time so one of you can record the location and titles of the discs as they are being loaded. Load them alphabetically if you prefer. You will figure out where each CD rests inside the player once you listen to them for a couple of days.
