Pros: EASS durability, DSL bass boost, car adapter, small, quality headphones
Cons: skipping tracks appears to get stuck often, it can eat up your battery power fairly quickly, specially if you have EASS on all the time

| shimmer_grl's Full Review: Aiwa XP-R100 Personal CD Player |
I have to disagree with k.r. coop’s opinion on this one, I think the Aiwa XP-560, personal CD player is a fair pick for your musical listening needs. It must be somewhat similar to the Aiwa XP-260, because the operating instructions has both those players listed. I, unlike, him, haven’t had many problems with it since I got it for a graduation gift in ‘98. It’s fairly sleek and nice neutral gray and black colors, unlike some others that are quite bizarre looking. I originally wanted a Sony,.. but I figured Aiwa products were up there in standard too, so I may as well give it a try, and not have to deal with the hassle of exchanging it for a different one.
I liked the idea that it came with a car adapter, because just before that I was going to buy a new stereo with CD changer for my car, but figured I wasn’t in my car for that long of trips anyway. Being I’m a music freak, I’d have to be dragging all those CDs in the changer in and out from the house to the car, all the time! Plus, when you get a nice system in your car that doesn’t have a removable face, it attracts a more possibility of theft. But, if you do put the player in your car every once and awhile, you have to make sure you have the two cords every time and then be careful to put it in a place that it won’t fall on the floor or slide around too much, as you’re driving. Plus, once you turn off the engine, it will restart any CD you were listening to when you start your car back up. So, then you have to manually go through each track before you take off to get to the one you wanted it on, again, which isn’t too uncommon, but still a bit of a pain.
This player has 10 second Electronic Anti Shock System (EASS) for skip protection and stuff like that in case you were to drop it, I haven’t done that too much, but when I have, it’s remained pretty durable. So, this means even if you accidentally subject your player to be bounced from your bed to your floor while listening, it can use these 10 seconds in it’s memory to continue playback while it returns to the point where it was interrupted.
Though, there is one disadvantage of having this simple option turned on all the time, it will wear down your batteries a lot faster. I must have it on more than I realized, because I buy fairly good brands of batteries that have a long life, or sometimes use rechargeables, and the player seems to run of juice in maybe five to six hours, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more.
One thing that is kind of annoying is sometimes when you go to skip/fast-forward through tracks on a CD, it will play the same track again that you were trying to move past, and it won’t want to go to the next track, kind of like it’s stuck. But, otherwise, the play, pause, stop, play mode-repeat, and open buttons tend to work fine. Plus, it’s got a slight DSL bass boost, that's a pretty cool thing for a personal player.
Anyway, this personal player is a fair choice at a good price, even though there’s a lot of good ones out there. So,.. if you had any doubts about picking this up, I’d tell you not to worry about it, from what I’ve experienced with it, it’s works fairly well up to the standards that it’s suppose to!
Now, that I’ve tried the Aiwa, I think I might be getting that over the Sony soon, if I decide to get the new jammin’ stereo system for my room, the one I’m looking at has more amp wattage, subwoofers, more options, and a nicer look compared to many of the Sony’s. But, besides those, Pioneer, Rockford Fostgate, and others, are all top quality brands, so either way, they're all probably guaranteeing you a lot better choice then something like a Panasonic! Ack!
