| elzora's Full Review: JVC XL-PV400 Personal CD Player |
Portable CD Players Come in all Shapes and Sizes
We went shopping last November for a portable CD player for our 18 year old - she wanted one for Christmas. I am not a person who buys the first thing I see, I like to shop around, compare prices and products, and then when I have an idea what I want I watch for it to go on sale. Around Christmas time CD players are always on sale.
From Cheap to Very Expensive
We wanted to buy her a nice CD player, one with lots of features, that didn't skip and one with good sound quality.
The better players were ranging from $75 to over $150. I knew that JVC was a good brand, and a local store had several of them on sale, so we went to check them out. The salesman made a mistake on this model - there was no price on it and he told us it was $70. It had better qualities than some more expensive models so we snatched it up. After waiting in line for 30 minutes (I am not exaggerating, everyone was at this electronics sale!), we got up to the counter and it rang up $125.00. We pitched a fit, and the salesman had to call his manager over and they ended up giving it to us for $70.
Features of the JVC XL-PV400 Portable CD Player
We didn't even know all that this CD player could do when we purchased it, but our daughter soon found out and she absolutely loves it! She has had two cheaper ones in the past that didn't hold up, in other words, she got what she paid for. This JVC model has:
- 40 second triple shock protection (the higher the number the better the skip protection, 40 is quite good, it has a
good suspension system and is quite sturdy)
- A digital to analog converter
- 24 programmable tracks
- Different sound selections such as hyper base
- Auto 0ff (if it hasn't been played for so many minutes it automatically turns off to save on batteries)
- Hold Switch (prevents it from being accidentally turned on when you aren't using it)
- Multiple play modes (random or regular song sequence)
- Long battery life, 21 hours to be exact
- AC adapter
- Headphones
- Heat resistant body (great for keeping this in your car during the summer months)
- Repeat (you can play back the last song or start the CD over from the beginning)
- Info window (this window tells you what song you are on, how many minutes are left on that song, and what mode you are set on ... such as if you are repeating one song, the whole CD, etc.
Back lit LCD display
Performance
My daughter loves this CD player. In fact, she is helping me to write this review. It has very seldom skipped on her and when it has it is only because she has banged it quite hard. The sound quality is great, the headphones are comfortable, and it is stylish. It has a silver top with a dark gray control pad.
One thing she didn't like is it doesn't have a clip to be able to put it onto a belt. Some sports CD players have this feature.
She takes this everywhere. In her car, on the middle of our big lawn, on camping trips, all over the place. She loves music and this fulfills her need to be able to hear it when we are away from electricity.
Recommendation
My daughter recommends this CD player. We feel we got a good price on it and that we got our moneys worth.
