I bought this cd player because I really wanted to listen to my music on the go, and my Rio just wasn't holding up. That's where the Kenwood DPC-X802 came in. I bought it at the local circuit city, and was told that you get what you pay for. They were right.
The Features
Bass Boost gives the music a much richer, fuller sound, and increases the bass. I find that I always use this when listening to rap music or anything else with a consistent drum beat.
Digital Anti-Skip is a circuit that reads the data from the cd, storing it in memory for up to 40 seconds! I was riding in the car one time and we went through a bunch of speed bumps, and I didn't hear a single stop.
CD Anchor. The player holds the cd in place in three different locations. This working in conjunction with the Digital Anti-Skip makes for a virtually skip free environment.
The headphones are great because they cancel out much of the outside noise which plagues other cd players. In the airplane for example, I can usually hear the roar of the engines, but not with these.
Two or Four Batteries. This is a great feature for when you are short on batteries. Basically, two gets you a long time, and four gets you longer. This has really been a lifesaver a few times when traveling and not being able to buy more batteries.
The wide capture recover circuit helps the laser in the cd player lock onto data more quickly, causing faster track changes, less power consumption, and less skip.
Auto Power-Off. I found this one in the manual, which I didn't know before. If you have the cd player on stop for more than 2 minutes, it shuts off automatically. Great for those times when you fall asleep listening to crappy music!
LCD backlighting. The LCD display is backlit so you can see the stuff at night. I remember on my old discman it wasn't backlit so I had to memorize all the positions of the buttons.
Function Key Hold stops all the buttons from functioning so that if you bump the cd player against something or whatever it doesn't stop the track or do anything by accident.
Car Cassette Adapter allows you to plug in the cd player to your cassette player to play your music through that.
Final Thoughts
The sound quality on this baby is excellent, especially with the over-ear headphones. The cd player is very portable, and can go with you anywhere. Best of all, it's extremely easy to use, and doesn't take a degree in rocket science to learn. The batter life as I mentioned before is excellent because of some of the enhanced battery power features, and the cd player itself is very durable. Definitely worth your cash, even though it will set you back 100.
