I am not a "techno-junkie," thus don't purchase electronic items often. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-technology by any means, I just don't have the interest, inclination, or budget to support the newest/greatest/best electronics out there. As such, I was in no big hurry to transition from audio cassettes to CDs when CDs became popular. I mean, my cassettes still played just fine and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," right?
Well, not long after CDs became big, my old stereo finally DID break and when I bought it's replacement, it came with a CD player. Okay, fine. As I said, I'm not ANTI-technology, so it was no big deal. I'd just get a few CDs (I made sure the new stereo also had a cassette player). Well, as you all know, CDs/CD players have LOTS more great features than cassettes/cassette player so, before I knew it, I was an avid CD buyer.
Okay, now I've got a bunch of CDs...and a car with a cassette player. What's a girl to do? Well, I certainly wasn't going to buy a CD player for my car -- no money, no inclination, LOTS of cassettes that I still loved. My solution? Buy a portable CD player with anti-skip protection, so I could use it in my car when I wanted, as well as out-and-about, at my office, etc.
Enter the Panasonic SL-S202 - a very basic, portable CD player. It was relatively cheap ($39.99 on sale), easy to work and came with a car kit and earphones. The sound was good, it ran well on batteries (about 35-40 hours), and the anti-skip protection worked great (rarely any skips under regular driving conditions). I also had a set of small portable speakers which, I discovered, plugged into one of it's adapter ports, making it a great "mini-stereo" system.
It's been a couple of years since I bought this item and it's seen it's share of hardship (banging around, dropping, etc.) during that time. Nonetheless, it still functions as if it were new. I've never had trouble with it playing a CD, never had it damage a CD it's played, adapters and earphones have held up nicely, and it continues to maintain it's original battery life.
Overall, it's been a great buy and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for the most basic CD functions for a good price.
