| Reklats's Full Review: Panasonic SL-S360 Personal CD Player |
It doesn't skip. It really doesn't. It also sounds really good. However, take into mind that a lot of these people writing reviews about the SL-S360 are probably writing their reviews just after they got theirs, or maybe a few months into ownership. This review is post-mortem. Call it a death certificate. This cd player worked really well the first year I had it. It got really good battery life (never timed it myself, but believe me, it was good) never skipped, and was well designed. It has a bunch of nifty features like resume, which will start the cd on the track you left of on, as well as shuffle, and a hold switch, and all those other features that are common now. The spinup time is small (a second or two) and it played fine.
ALthough it works really well initially, its down hill from there. I noticed that after about a year of steady use, the anti-skip feature turned into kamakazi mode. With antiskip on, it skipped for no reason at all. So, my only alternative was to leave antiskip off, which is bad. Older cd players (at least my old one) would resist skips just by rigid construction. Without antiskip, this cd player will skip at just about anything. Pick it up, gently, *skip*, especially large piece of dust hits cover *skip*... It was only usable while sitting still, which kind of defeats the purpose of the small mobile thing. At least for me.
So, in summary, I DO NOT Recommend this cd player. If you must have a cd player, I'm sure you can find a better one out there. Personally, I recommend the Sony mz-R70 minidisc player. :) Which is what I bought to replace this cd player.
To other reviewers: Is there a way to select the "highly recommend" "recommend" "don't recommend" thing that appears next to the review? I never saw an option to select one. When I look at my own reviews I just see "your review" next to it. Ungawa@apk.net - thanks
