| LaurenMarie's Full Review: Panasonic ShockWave SL-SW405 Personal CD Player |
I don’t listen to the radio, I pretty much have a CD player where ever I am in my house, a 5 disk changer in My Room and the Living Room, a Single Disk Boom Box in the Bathroom, One on my computer and one in my car. I have about 100-150 of my CDs in those portable cases and I carry them with me everywhere. And just in case I have a free second I generally have my portable CD player with me. I have been electronically obsessive since I was 10 years old. I have had my fair share of CD players, portable and not. When it comes to durability, Panasonic leads the way. And when you buy a portable CD player you need one that will take its fair share of knocks. I had no money when my last CD player broke, after a couple of years of my abuse, a child knocked it onto a cement floor and I had to bid it farewell. I went shopping the next day, knowing that I only had about 130 dollars to spend on a new CD player. I bought this particular model about 2 years ago for 120 dollars, overall not a bad deal. It was the only fairly decent Panasonic that was going for the amount of money I had. I will only buy Panasonic when it comes to portable CD players, just like I will only buy Pioneer when it comes to Car audio.
Well after I bought my CD player there were a few things about it that I fell in love with. First off, the way it opens and closes is truly unique. It has two flaps; one on either side that flaps over to keep the CD player closed. I love this because on most CD players there is a little button and if something happens to knock it then it opens up. That can be really irritating if you are in the middle of a good song and something happened to hit the button.
Another feature it has is the battery access is on the inside of the CD player, you have to open up the top where the CD goes to be able to put in or remove batteries, which is great if you have ever done major traveling on a plane. I cant tell you how may times the CD player in my Carry on luggage happened to have the panel on the back open up and me stuck with digging through my bag for the two AA batteries.
It also has, to put it simply, anti-skip technology. The CD player has an option that allows you to have extra protection against skipping. So if you are running, all you do is flip a switch and no more skipping. However all you do is flip the switch off if you are on a nice smooth plane ride. The only downside to that is simply that when the anti-skip mode is on more battery power is used.
Over all the CD player is large and clunky but durable and worth the buy.
I have read the other reviews on this and they are all pretty much right on, so read those too.
