| mertesc's Full Review: Sony TC-KE400S Single Cassette Deck |
Sony got it right with this deck. Easy to operate, high quality construction and fantastic performance for a street price around $250, and you won't be ashamed to let your friends see it in your rack.
Dolby S really needs to be used with Type IV cassettes, otherwise the extended dynamic range (softest noises to loudest) and upper treble won't impress as much. Expect to pay 30% more for that type of cassete, but if you couldn't care less for all that "airy presence" and just wanna crank Joan Jett at 130 dB, your dupes and originals will play flawlessly, cleanly, and with plenty of class.
Leave the sapphire bearings and 3 inch thick aluminium chassis to the goofballs that pay 3k a foot for speaker cable...
