This camera has got to be the greatest investment in my life! I am very impressed with the digital effect and abundant features. I ordered my Sony TRV-66 a month and a half before my son was due to be born and it arrived within one week from the manufacturer. I only had about six days to play with it because my son decided to arrive nearly six weeks early and we were able to record some of my labor and moments right after he was born. I love being able to use the 2.5" LCD screen when I want to play back anything I have recorded; and the sound goes right along with it (even has a volume control on the screen!)
The Night Shot feature is fantastic because I have been able to sneak in my son's room at night when he is babbling to himself and record without him knowing. The picture quality is great and when I watch the tape on the t.v. screen it seems like I'm reliving the moment because it's so real. Steady Shot is another plus because so many times I have been moving while recording something and the picture is so still on playback. I ordered an additional battery with a longer life - always have a spare battery! One more plus about this camera is the "photo" button because while you are recording you can press the button and it takes a still photo of your subject (while still recording current sound) and you press it again to resume recording. My friend captured some goofy expressions of me at my baby shower, but it's fun to watch.
I prefer to view what I am recording in color, but I am very used to looking through the black and white viewfinder when I want to save battery power. While on the VTR mode (to watch the video) make sure to turn the camera off after viewing something or else your battery will quickly drain. There is still so much more for me to learn about this camera and the possibilities seem endless.
Sure this seems like a lot of money to spend on such a light and compact camera...but it's worth every penny! I was able to get a better deal through a friend who works at Sony (retail stores charge a good bit more). Anyone who is interested in getting high quality resolution and several features to make recording fun will benefit from this camera. Who wants to lug around a bulky, heavy camera with poor quality? This is an important purchase that will enable you to capture moments that can never be replaced.
