Hi8TM XR gives you extended resolution of 440 lines TV quality. It has a luminance bandwidth for greater image detail and clarity. It has up to 20x Optical and up to 360x Digital Zoom. But the digital zoom becomes annoying beyond 50x. Included is a StaminaTM Power Management System which allows you to record up to 14 hours on one battery. But you have to buy this battery. Some sellers are giving this battery away for free. It uses an InfoLithium® Battery with AccuPowerTM Meter System Rechargeable InfoLithium Battery. The swivel screen is the best information manager/information status I have seen. It provides status of not only remainig film quantity, remaining recording battery time, current time and date info, but also the status and quality of your shots and a lot more. It includes indications of backlighting and brightness. Titling (editing your own titles) is another powerful feature of this camcorder. The viewfinder has the same information, but it is in black and white.
Picture effects are primary features of this camcorder. It has Slim, Stretch, Mosaic, Solarization, Black and White, Sepia, Neg. Art and Pastel. These can be combined with fading to produce proffesional quality effect.
The laser link is a plus for Audio/Video connections. This eliminates wiring from the camcorder to your other audio/video device.
The remote control has only the basic buttons.
There is an optional tripod with a remote control that moves it in any direction. This enables you to produce perfect steady movements while shooting.
