Pros: Great quality video. Compact. 18x zoom range.
Cons: BW viewfinder. Short battery life. Entirely menu driven.
The Bottom Line: This camera is more than 3 years old, but stacks up very well with newer models. Would not hesitate to buy another if I lost this one.

Great Ebay deal. This camera was a display model from Ritz Camera, so it has seen limited use. Has a few cosmetic scuffs, but I'd have put them there myself anyway.
Superior image quality, although not substantially better than Hi-8. But using the firewire connection to download video to the computer is far easier and faster than other video-capture devices.
The eye piece is stationary. Not a major problem but inconvenient at times. The LCD display does swivel 270 degrees. It is very easy on the eyes, but it sucks the life out of the battery in no time. The viewfinder is not in color. But BW seems sharper than color anyway, so I can live with it.
This camera has plenty of features, as far is fades, wipes, BW, sepia colors, etc. My biggest gripe is that they are all only accessible through the menu. It is time consuming and not easy to get to them. It requires planning before you start filming. Of course you don't want 50 confusing buttons on the outside of the camera, but you should be able to easily access some important ones, like white-balance.
Image stabilization works reasonably well, and much better than not having it at all. Zoom speed takes some getting used to. The harder you press, the faster the zoom. After some practice, it works fine. Microphone is sensitive and sound quality is very good. No night vision, but that is not a feature I use anyway. Construction is not particularly robust, but nothing in this price range is.
